The Iodine Global Network (IGN) wants a world where all people attain optimal iodine nutrition and children can reach their full cognitive potential. Their overarching goal is to ensure that all populations achieve and maintain iodine sufficiency, and that the structures to do so are permanently established in all countries and regions.
IGN knows that protecting the brains and IQ of children through salt iodization has remarkable benefits for children’s education. About 5 cents a year provides a lifetime of protection from iodine deficiency. Every dollar spent on salt iodization yields a $30 return through improved learning, which leads to greater productivity in later life and boosts the economies of the nations in which these children live.
Their mission is to be the authoritative voice for iodine nutrition. IGN supports and catalyze global and national iodine programs, working with key public, private, scientific and civic stakeholders. They focus on universal salt iodization as the most cost-effective and sustainable solution for prevention of iodine deficiency disorders.
