Even in nature, most wild animals struggle to survive every day. Preserving habitats or species is not enough to ensure animals themselves have good lives.
Responsible action requires sound science. But there is still so much we don’t know about which animals are sentient, what their lives are like in the wild, and how we can responsibly help them. That’s why Wild Animal Initiative supports wild animal welfare research.
To grow this emerging field, Wild Animal Initiative provides three types of services:
- Research: Producing original research to identify priorities for the field.
- Outreach: Connecting academics to collaborators and opportunities in the field.
- Grant assistance: Securing funding for projects with the most potential to accelerate the field.
